Sarasota Senior High School: the classic 1927 building, no longer in use by the school, was slated to be demolished, some years ago, until a group of Sarasota residents successfully fought the battle to save the building.

About the original Sarasota Senior High School, the History Alive site is fabulous!

Now... the new home of Ringling College of Art and Design's SARASOTA ART MUSEUM  ("The SAM," previously referred to as "SMOA"), with expanded uses as the anchor of their Museum Campus.

They've even had a feature in Architectural Digest about this renovation into a beautiful new museum space.

Plus, with the merger of Ringling College of Art and Design’s continuing studies department, Lifelong Learning Academy of Sarasota and Pierian Spring Academy, the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute  (OLLI at Ringling College), is also based at the Museum Campus.

The Museum Campus also includes
"the old VisionWorks building."

That building, now unrecognizable, was originally, in the '50s, an iconic Sarasota School of Architecture creation of Victor Lundy,
Galloway's Furniture Showroom.

Also, interestingly, subsequently, during part of the '60s, the building was the first home of Sarasota artist & illustrator Ben Stahl's Museum of the Cross, featuring his series of huge stations-of-the-cross paintings.
