a bit about
the Alta Vista neighborhood of Sarasota
Picture
The Alta Vista neighborhood in Sarasota is an "older" non-HOA neighborhood adjacent to the downtown area, mainly residential: about 800 residences (not counting new projects), both single-family and multi-family, comprised of everything from 1920's wooden bungalows, to ranch houses of the 50's-70's, to brand-new modernist-style homes, condominium complexes, plus numerous new townhome & apartment complexes underway.

MUCH DEVELOPMENT is HAPPENING hereabouts...

Lots of changes to the neighborhood as well as along its immediate edges, as Sarasota sprawls, infills and grows.
Many teardowns of older homes to build new, larger homes. For more details see the project pages under "Sarasota Grows."
Along the "main drag" to the west, S. Washington Blvd (US 301, a.k.a. Tamiami Trail), are many commercial establishments, including our local Bay Street Publix grocery store.

Along Ringling Boulevard to the north are many of Sarasota County government's facilities, as well as the Sarasota Police Department.

Payne Park, the "Central Park of Sarasota," is right in our backyard.

The Legacy Trail bike trail now starts/ends right at Payne Park.  See the Friends of the Legacy Trail site and/or Sarasota County  website for Legacy Trail .
In addition to being in a prime location, within our neighborhood are:
Schools
  • Alta Vista Elementary School
  • Sarasota High School
  • Innovation Academy (previously Suncoast School for Innovative Studies SSIS) (charter VPK-5th)
Preschools & VPKs
  • Preschool @ First Presbyterian
  • A New Beginning @ Concordia Early Childcare 941-316-1555
Spiritual Centers
  • Concordia Lutheran Church
  • First Congregational United Church of Christ
  • First Presbyterian Church
  • Sarasota Center of Light
  • Temple Beth Sholom
And
  • YMCA
  • Circus Arts & Sailor Circus
  • Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at Ringling College
  • Sarasota Art Museum

*Alta Vista, meaning "High View," features an average elevation of about 20ft above sea level.   ...which, for coastal Florida, is quite elevated!
This website was created as a bulletin board, not a discussion forum, to share info focussed on the Alta Vista neighborhood.
