PAYNE PARK original 1925 deed.
In 1925 Calvin and Martha Payne donated to (?or sold @ $300/acre) the City 60 acres of centrally located land, valued at $250,000, to be used for a public park. The Paynes lifted their use restrictions on 14 of the 60 acres so the city could sell the land for $150,000, and those funds were used to acquire 290 acres north of Fruitville Road for a municipal golf course, which in 1927 became the Bobby Jones Golf Course. The Paynes also gifted another parcel of land to the County for the Agricultural Fair, which now comprises the Robarts Arena lands.
Below are the official deed plus a legible text of the deed of Payne Park lands from the Paynes to the City [Exhibit "A"]. The Resolution document below that discusses said acquisition by the City of Sarasota.
